My Platform
What do I hear most at neighbours’ doors?
-
I would respond to this by:
Taxing income from investment properties as personal income, to free up more houses for people to live in
Getting the Government of Canada involved in building public housing again. The model would be a “co-housing” structure, as championed by the Canadian Cohousing Network.
-
I would respond to this by:
Promoting a more human transition away from fossil fuels. The Trudeau government has been very heavy-handed around bans on plastics, the carbon tax, and energy transitions. As a Green who grew up in Alberta, I would want to see workers in the non-renewable energy sector paid in full for retraining in sustainable energy.
Continuing and expanding the Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan programs, with a goal of 50% participation by Canadian households by 2030.
-
I would respond to this by:
Implementing a Guaranteed Basic Income in Canada. Individuals over 18 earning less than $1400 per month would receive an additional $1400 per month, no strings attached. Those earning between $1400 and $4200 per month would receive a lesser top-up on their income. If the cost of living increases, so does the $1400 amount.
Do you have questions about what this would look like for you, or how we would pay for this? You are not alone! Click here for some frequently asked questions about basic income.

I would respond to this by:
Offering a more hopeful, more collaborative style as your MP.
Green Party members have a reputation for working across party lines to solve important issues facing Canadians, and I would pledge to do the same.
Examples: Mike Morrice’s excellent work on key amendments to the Canada Disability Benefit and Electoral Reform
What else would I fight for?
-
Currently, travelling on the Western Canada line on Via Rail creates more carbon emissions per person than flying by plane!
I would commit to a massive upgrade of Via Rail service, expanding the network to its former 1970s size and upgrading the whole network to electrified high-speed rail within 10 years.
-
Immediately move to have Canada's electoral system move to a Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP) system, which has worked well in New Zealand for decades.
Reform the Senate of Canada to become an elected body, with equal representation from every province to provide regional balance to the federal government.
-
In many of Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker programs, migrants who perform key functions for Canada’s economy such as agricultural workers have no pathway to permanent residency, and are subject to poor treatment by their employers without the protection of Canada’s labour laws.
I would fight to change the system so that any person who is invited to work in Canada may also apply to become a permanent resident, and is not bound to a single employer when they are brought to Canada for work.

With the soaring cost of groceries, many in our communities do not have regular access to fresh produce.
I would work to establish a Canada Community Gardens fund, so that neighbourhoods get the resources to start growing their own food during the warmer months, and preserve it for the winter months.
